What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art with its own medical theory, based on the principles of a interconnected network of channels that travel all over the body.

How do I Know What to do in Order to Treat a Problem Area with Acupuncture?

The channels commonly seen on acupuncture models and pictures with superimposed lines drawn on to the body are very like our topography maps of roads and towns.

The body is landscaped and can be navigated in a similar same way to how a G.P.S. (global positioning system) would track a given journey - it provides location markers that tell you where to go and how best to get there and secondly where you are located at this given moment in time. By studying these map networks or channel systems, this informs us of the current route plan to navigate to the nearest town or avoid that traffic jam or bottleneck. It is the same with acupuncture channels by knowing the network map we can focus on the pain or other body symptoms of distress as we know which channels to use to effect changes in that part of the body.

An everyday example of how this might work might be in the case of carpal tunnel syndrome where there is pain or numbness at the inner wrist and the palm of the hands which goes into the fingers. This commonly signifies the sick channel to be the middle of three channels on the inside of the arm. This can be treated by several other channels located far away from the area on the legs and even perhaps on the other arm.

It's like when the police force are activating a diversion to counteract the problem area or bottleneck, and in addition, sending messages to their other constabulary to clear the area just by telephoning (giving a signal to) their neighbouring police force.

Or it could be like you are sending a get well card to a friend with a positive message inside! Acupuncture points are like the 'get well soon' message in a card that you send in the post (channels/meridians) to your friend who is unwell (and has the sick meridian!).

I have seen really positive results (but not exclusively) to those suffering from headaches/migraines, back pain, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, long covid sequelae, skin acne and rashes, hayfever, Bell's palsy, menstrual irregularities, depression, and anxiety.

The British Acupuncture Council has compiled a number of factsheets that are evidence-based in support of acupuncture. Please find link here.

CASE STUDY

A couple were told by their medical team they would not naturally conceive and would require IVF. They both received acupuncture with me and are expecting their first baby (without the need for IVF!)

CASE STUDY

A lady asked for my support because of irregular and infrequent periods. Her periods only came twice a year. We have now seen some positive results with a period occurring every month for two months in a row.
